Internships are an integral part of business education since they allow you to test drive possible career paths and companies.
Wide Range of Opportunities
Complete statistics for the Class of 2008 are not yet available, so here's information from the Class of 2007 to give you an idea of the range of location, function, industry and source of internships.
- Last year, 99% of students attained an internship with almost 93% of them securing a position through Career Services.
- 80.6% of internships were in the U.S. Particularly popular were the growth markets of Seattle and Minneapolis.
- Internships covered 24 different functions including brand/product management, business development, private client services, strategic planning, consulting, investment research and operations.
- Companies where interns were placed include Credit Suisse, Cisco, Diageo, Harrah's, Kraft, Yahoo, the Chicagoland Entrepreneurial Center and Blue Cross Blue Shield.
- Western Europe and Asia were the most frequent locations for internships outside the U.S. In Asia, Hong Kong and Shanghai were the top cities. London and Paris ranked at the top of European locations.
Preparation
You'll have plenty of support and activities to help you identify, secure and prepare for your internship. These include:
- a full-day conference organized by Career Services where second-year students share first-hand experiences about their summer internships and their job searches
- a flexible curriculum that allows you to take the courses you feel you'll need for success before your internship begins
- over 115 company presentations where you can learn about internship opportunities and begin expanding your MBA network
- student mentors who provide career advice and information about what to expect during an internship
